SECURITY COUNCIL

The Security Council is one of the six main organs established under the UN charter, it has a primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security, counts with the ability to foster negotiations, imposes sanctions and authorizes the use of force, including the deployment of peacekeeping missions. The Security Council's primary functions include identifying threats to peace, recommending peaceful solutions, and, if necessary, authorizing enforcement actions such as imposing sanctions or authorizing military interventions.
